Brynley’s Bed

So since we will soon be blessed with another little girl and Bryn’s room will no longer be just “her” room we’ve been trying to make the transition as smooth as possible– so it’s not the new nursery it’s the new pretty girls room 🙂

I found the awesome plans/idea to make this bed on knock off wood (love the site- you must check it out!) and I felt very ambitious and was going to make this bed all by myself. Problem was that we needed to make it a toddler bed size– (we’re planning on have Bryn in the toddler bed for at least a few more years and than Elleana/ Lilly/ Amelia/ the little nudger can use it 2) and to shrink it down took a lot of math work-which my brain hates to do- and included using the table saw 🙁 and sorry but that thing scares the hebbergebbers outta  me! so I recruited Dave- and he was amazing of course and we built the thing in about 2 hours.

The Before:  Isn’t it some pretty wood– I can smell it still yum 🙂

After being Built
course it took me about a week to finally paint it and finish it 🙂 This belly is gettin big and I have to be really careful painting so it takes fooreevveerrr.

some distressing, cream paint, pecan stain, and a little smoke glaze

The girls room is still far from done– and I plan on changing Bryn’s bedding and making some pillows but it’s definitely a work in progress.  but I think this bed looks a lot better than this old thing did– *but it was free and thank you thank you Mike and Misty for giving it to us it has gotten a lot of use 🙂

I found that website *by accident* and have spent hours going through it! Great job on the bed! Looks incredible. I hope to build something someday, but saws scare me too, and well, I don’t have the handy hubs to help;) Can’t wait to see the finished room. You are so great at decorating.

THANK YOU!!!! One of the things on our list to buy this year out of the tax return is Layla a bed, I hadn’t even thought about being able to make one, but now that’s exactly what I’m going to do, and while I’m at it, I’ll make a bigger one for Lexi’s full size bed! Thanks, your amazing!!

I love checking your blog and seeing what projects you are up to. The bed is beautiful. Sure beats the old one. Mike & I decided that it has been through 6 six kids now. Definately been used.

You’ve done an amazing job! I found your blog through Knock Off Wood; consider yourself bookmarked!

I found your blog from Knock Off Wood and just wanted to tell you that the bed looks amazing! I’ve been thinking about having my hubby build one for our son and now that I’ve seen yours I’m definitely going to have him build one. Thanks for sharing your project.

Great job!! Question for you, what brand of paint did you use for the bed? I’m also pregnant and in the middle of one of Ana’s projects and hope to make this bed next but am looking for a paint that is safe for the kids and also safe for me to use! Thanks and so glad to find your blog!

Love the bed! Great job!

Did you make that bedding? I love the quilt? Looks like a rag quilt? I want to make one for my daughter’s room..

great blog!.. I also have a little girl named Brinely, just spelled a little different.. your kids are too cute!

Found you from Knock Off Wood. Thanks for sharing this. The bed is absolutely darling!

I came here from knock off wood. I love the bed and will be building it for my 2yr. old soon. As I was reading the post I saw Mike & Misty ~ they just moved into my ward ~ it’s a small “blog” world.

I was wondering what kind of paint you used…semi gloss?

Hey there! Just stumbled across your blog! (And spent the last hour reading it!~ LOVE your ‘new’ kitchen, BTW! and congrats on #3!)

My little one will (hopefully)be in a toddler bed by summer, and even though I already have a convertable crib, I just love this bed. Can you tell me, did you use nails (with a nail gun) or screws to fasten everything? I’m worried about her wiggling it loose, or worse- jumping on the bed!

Angel & Michael

I love the bed. You did a wonderful job with this. The distressed paint look is beautiful!

This turned out so good!!! I love this little bed! I too am a little afraid of the table saw…I don’t have any problem using the other ones but I need some practice first on the table one. lol Can’t wait to see the room come together and hearing of your new arrival very soon! Hugs and love friend,

Wow! You are amazing!

Can you tell me how you got the paint so perfectly not perfect?! What colours did you use and how did you glaze?

Thanks everyone for your so sweet comments– I tried answering everyone’s questions on their own blog or email– but I’ll answer them here too I guess– For the paint I just used the cheapest latex satin kind from Walmart in Country white– cuz’ that’s what I had on hand and after sanding down the edges and distressing I rubbed a pecan colored stain over the whole thing to give it a protective coating and to give it a little more of a yellowing color– than I have some behr smoke glaze that I rubbed in the crevices and on the edges. We used screws on any part of the bed that would receive a lot of pressure and just nailed the other pieces, Also I did make the quilt, I’ve only made two quilts in my life and both have been rag ones 🙂 Love them cuz’ they’re easy.

Just came over from Knock Off Wood and had to tell you how adorable your bed is! Definitely going to be following your blog to see more projects – loving your style:)

Hi I’m thinking of building a bed for my son. What wood did you choose and did you go to HD or Lowes?
